Product Knowledge and Range Induction
As part of the induction process, Product Knowledge & Range Induction training is provided to enable new starters to gain sufficient Product Knowledge to confidently answer queries from trade customers, and to enable staff to quickly and accurately point customers in the right direction.
Health and Safety Certification
Yard-based roles include training in manual handling, while counter and warehouse staff receive training in safe lifting, use of PPE, and in the event of an emergency.
Customer Service and Trade Sales
Customer Service and Trade Sales – Training for counter-based roles will help you deal with professional customers, create quotes, and manage orders for large quantities of products. The main aims of this training are to work quickly, accurately and where necessary, pass on information to more senior staff.

Systems and IT Training
Stock management systems, till systems and trade accounts are typically covered during induction so that staff can work independently and effectively within a few weeks of starting.
Career Development and Apprenticeships
Selco supports progression through a number of different pathways. Some roles are part of recognised apprenticeships in retail and trade (UK Government). Most roles can progress to a supervisory/specialist role within a number of years.
Training for each role can vary between departments within the store.
