This is a famous ancient site that has UNESCO world heritage status. It is best well known for the fact that the passage of the chamber becomes illuminated by the sun at sunrise on the winter solstice. Many people gather here at this time to see this amazing spectacle for themselves. The chamber is around 5000 years old, and the Bru na Boinne visitor centre provides you with lots of interesting information about the site and the structures that are here.

Nearby are the Loughcrew cairns. These are also thousands of years old and are home to some spectacularly well-preserved ancient artworks as well as many burial chambers that were built on the hill. The walks around the local area are also stunning and it is a great day out for those who want to enjoy Irelands beautiful countryside as well as to learn more about the ancient history that helped to shape the country.
